Fireblood’s scorched-earth campaign of aural destruction began in 2023. Formed by husband and wife duo Mike and Angel Rot, along with Thomas Stanfel and Travis Lee Overcash, these scene veterans proudly bear southern sludge metal’s torch while lighting their own wicked flame.

Taking the genre in a somehow meaner, more extreme direction, Fireblood employs massive atonal guitars, booming drums, and churning low end to create a caustic, thick-as-molasses sound that has a physical weight to its thunderous, mid-tempo grooves. Lumbering ever forward, each stomping beat comes laden with the threat of eruption, and when the top does blow it’s an explosion of seething rage. Atop the slabs of riffs grates vocalist Travis Lee Overcash’s monstrous snarl, giving their self-described “death rock” its due in his unhinged, throat-shredding delivery’s proximity to death metal.

Fireblood’s debut EP, Hellalujah, stormed listeners’ gates on April 1, 2024 and quickly found purchase in the heavy underground, being featured on Doom Charts, Weedian, Cave Dweller Music and moreFour tracks of punishing, sneering heavy that groove as much as they grind, Hellalujah takes cues from Red Fang’s flirtations with dissonance and Noothgrush’s savage walls of sound to create a ferocious declaration of intent.

Idle hands are the devil’s playthings, however, and the band have lit a fiendish fire under themselves, quickly following up with their second EP, Goatslayer. Managing to be even heavier, nastier, and slower than before, Fireblood unearth a new level of gritty, hellish sludge ‘n roll across four massive tracks.

From the outset of opener “A Perfect Place For Death,” the band’s now signature sound makes itself immediately known. Grinding away through sludge and doom-fueled riffs with ill intent, Fireblood crawl and scrape their way through to the epic seven-minute finisher “A.I.G.O.D.,” a fittingly brutal longform end to the whole affair. Goatslayer arrives in all its dark glory December 6th on ROT ROOM.
